We are a small family farm located in the beautiful Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts.

At Wells Tavern Farm, we believe in the value of heritage; most of the breeds of animals we raise are of the old-time genetics. Some things are just too good to need to be improved upon.  These heritage breeds need conservation and careful management. We believe in grass feeding and rotating our pastured beef.  The other farm animals frolic in the outside in natural settings, and are supplemented with New England produced, all-vegetarian, additive and byproduct free grain.  The corn that we feed comes from Northfield, Massachusetts, which is about a fifteen minute drive from us.

What do we raise? We are especially fond of our heritage breed pigs: Tamworths,  Large Black, Red Wattle and Berkshires.
We are raising a flock of colored Romney and white Border Leicester sheep, Belted Galloway Beef,  Jersey cows, Pilgrim Geese, meat chickens and Angora goats!

What is a farm without chickens? Our favorite breeds currently are the White Rock and Buff Orpingtons.

Most of the animals on our farm have been hatched or born here, and raised with love and attention provided daily from our family.  We invite you to share in the bounty from our farm!

Heritage. Pastured. Local.

Our belief in our farm slogan runs deep. Heritage. Pastured. Local. Whenever possible, we have chosen to raise heritage, rare, heirloom, and other animal breeds and plant varieties that have been around fora long time and may now be in danger of extinction. Webster's II New Riverside Dictionary defines an heirloom as, "A valued family possession handed on from generation to generation." We could not have said it any better. That personal commitment and effort is what it takes to make heirlooms and heritage breed critters.

We also believe in the ideas of "HUMANITY EVEN FOR NONHUMANS" see the article from the The New York Times (Opinion), Nicholas D. Kristof, April 9, 2009

Our products are available by e-mail, by chance and by telephone. Take a short ride into the beautiful hills of Western Massachusetts, and stop by the farm!
